● Originally a Summer Resort visitors came to Steamboat to enjoy Hot Springs, Hunting and fishing. 

● Three Championships golf courses, indoor-outdoor tennis center, biking, hiking, kayaking, tubing, fly fishing and horseback riding. 

The name Steamboat Springs is thought to have originated around this time when French trappers thought they heard the chugging sound of a steamboat's steam engine. The sound turned out to be a natural mineral spring.

Climate
Steamboat Springs’ summers are mild, cool and dry.  July is the hottest month with an average high of 82 degrees and low of 41 degrees.  Low humidity and elevation combine to make the summer comfortable and pleasing

 

Area Transportation
Steamboat Springs Transit offers free bus transportation throughout Steamboat Springs. Call 970-879-3717 for bus information and schedules. Chartered taxi, shuttle and limousine service is available from Denver, the SteamboatSpringsAirport and the YampaValleyRegionalAirport. Shopping &Retail
With 250 shops and boutiques including art galleries, western outfitters, outdoor retailers and gift shops, Steamboat Springs caters to every taste.  Two primary pedestrian friendly shopping areas include Steamboat’s MountainVillage located at the base of the Steamboat Ski Area, and downtown Steamboat Springs.  The two areas are three miles apart and serviced by Steamboat Springs free city bus.  Several other shopping options in between the “town and mountain” are also located on the bus route.

Steamboat offers more than 70 restaurants representing all cuisines for every liking.  From fresh game and fish to sushi you will no doubt be satisfied.
